Only One

Do think there’s time for your to-do list? Nope. Put the fun at the top and take one day to waste time. Time wasted isn’t just for blowing off life. We require recharging. My mode of operation has drastically changed in the last few months. I’m looking at life quite differently. As outgoing as I appear to be, I’m quite the coward on adventures. I guess I just feel like new is scary.  When it comes to following in adventures, I’m all in. When it comes to creating adventures it’s that timid mouse that creeps out.

Today I ventured out to a brand new (now my favorite) coffee spot. Neverland! The coffee spot is a quick jaunt from my gym in one of the coolest spots in North Miami. Why was I so fearful of trying something new? It’s because it’s new. As we age settling into comfort might be how folks slide into the grave. As I age, I’m beginning to do those things I’ve been putting off. Not that children get in the way of adventures, it’s simply different adventures as a Granny.

In a few weeks, I’m stepping out into brand new territory. It’s our granddaughter’s first weekend away with us! Just as I had been so blue about being without children, I received a text about the possible overnighter! God knew! All the stories you hear about how a grandmother has influenced a child is about to come about. When Arlowe was born in New Mexico I had no idea she’d be only a few hours away at age 3. Such a perfect age. Potty trained, such a talker, and filled with adventure, I’m beginning to relive those toddler days. I can’t explain the joy it gives me to be given this opportunity!

Do you journal? Look back at your prayers.  God’s never late. Even if you’re not a journal type, recall prayers from 10 years ago. Really reflect. Where were you 10 years ago? BLINK! Here we are. I never hold back in my prayers. Asking God to do something big isn’t difficult. He’s able to say no or not now and just as able to say, “I’ve got something even better!” Are we thinking too small in our conversations with the Maker of the Universe, the God who parted the Red Sea, the King of Kings who left his glory to be born as a tiny helpless baby to a virgin? Put into perspective who God is!

This is the God who chose 12 disciples to follow him. He has thousands and thousands watching his every step. He selected 12. By any means, 12 sounds like a small number to bring alongside the God of the Universe. He’s all about intimacy with the ones he loves. We think about the “influencers” of our times, and I laugh at all those IG accounts. Think if Jesus had an IG account of 12 followers. He would very much look like a loser. How is 12 an amount of people to make a difference?

Even the Apostle Paul, in a Roman jail, literally chained to a soldier was making an impact. From that time in Phillipi, those few he preached to in jail formed the church in Phillipi. He wasn’t worried about his plain, even unattractive appearance. The stature of this man was nothing. God saw his heart and knocked him off a horse, blinded him, and called him out. ( See Acts Chapter 9) One man made a difference.

Never crumble with the weight of the world thinking you’re just one. What is one person to do? A lot.  It’s not a silly little goal, rather it’s one day at a time. One victory over sin at a time. One failure at a time. One person’s life at a time. One day at a time we’re working through the lives of those around us. Take the pressure off to impact the world with “likes and posts.” Be clear your life is in God’s hands and he’s using you one life at a time.

Jesus, one man, One Savior. Heaven is only obtained one way and that’s through Jesus. Repent. Believe. John 14:6 -"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"
