Sasquatch Sighting by Deena McDaniel Positively Beautiful Blog 2/21/23
Yard work is an ongoing chore. It’s easy to neglect a certain section of our yard, only because it’s filled with vines. Grass never would grow there so I made an alternative ground cover. In the middle of the intertwined glory sits Sasquatch. We are the jokers. Hey, he might be real. And a crazy goal is to have a destination point of a Bigfoot Museum roadside attraction, once we move back to Missouri. But when?
As I began the tidy-up of the vines, I made my way to the statue. I broke out in laughter. A single plant had made it up his “crack” and thus the scowling face made more sense. I imagined the time it took to sprout from the ground and find the wiggly plant sneaking up his butt cheeks. I’d seen the scary guy there for quite some time but had no idea how long he’d been in that one place. Well, long enough for the growth to happen.
God worked weird things in my mind through the weird things in my yard. We’ve been talking about moving to our forever home after retirement. Missouri has our heart, because we lived there for 15 years, and all our four kids were born there. But we wait. When is the right time? Where is the right place? How long will it be? I began to think about the vine up his butt. "Weird", remember?
How long do you wait in one place to know it’s time to move on? Do you look for a sign from God? Or do you plant your big foot in the ground and become complacent? Making decisions and having the right timing makes my head spin. While on the other hand, our daughter and son-in-law seem to have no issues with on to the next place. They bought a house neither of them has seen in person. Yep, only trusting their real estate agent and the picture on the listing they purchased their newest adventure, and are on the move again.
This beautiful new home is even better than their last one. They’re always ready to explore. And then there’s me. I’m the Sasquatch with a vine up my, well you understand. If you stay in one place too long, you’re part of the fixtures. There’s nothing wrong with staying where you’re planted, but if you know the Holy Spirit is leading you to the next quest and you don’t move, well that’s another story. What would have happened to Abraham if he’d told God "No", he wasn’t going to go where he was led. “Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.”- Genesis 12:1 When we moved here, I felt like him. I had no idea where in Florida, He would plant us, but Hollywood grabbed our hearts.
Everyone must live somewhere. Some might not ever travel past 100 miles of their first home. (I met a man in Richland Missouri who told me that very story about himself and he was a very old man.)
It takes faith to follow. “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, without knowing where he was going.”-Hebrews 11:8 However, how do you hear correctly from the Lord and not make a hasty decision?
We want to make godly choices. Often, it’s a crossroads of your life and what? Desperation kicks in to hear from the Lord. We’d all love to have the back pages of the Bible with a tutorial in concordance with obvious answers. "Without consultation, plans are frustrated, but with many counselors they succeed" – Proverbs 15:22 And then there is peace. Is your heart at peace or filled with anxiety? The Lord will fight for you. The gift of grace comes with prayer and ends with prayer. Obey his leading by holding your hands open as the saying goes, for him to fill them.
Weigh your options. Set a timetable. Fast and pray. And then it comes down to if you want that vine to grow more. “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”- Proverbs 16:3 There’s perhaps a list of many good options. God’s priorities take precedence—His timing, not our whining. Tough one isn’t it. Choices get messy. I’m going to need time and grace. One thing for sure, if you see footprints in Missouri and they’re BIG, we’ll be buying that plot of wilderness. Hairy up and wait!
Love Beyond the Grave by Deena McDaniel Positively Beautiful Blog STARVE THE VIRUS OUT we hear. Doing nothing is doing something. We go about our “dailies” and wonder what day it is? “We’re working on retirement muscles.” My husband cheerfully adds. Quite frankly for this stay at home, homeschooling mom, not much has changed. Well, we wash our hands more. We pray more. We swim more! We cook more. We’re blessed beyond measure, but then God blows me away one more time on how much he loves me. The mail arrived. (Read to the end for the knockout punch.) My Dad’s wife Jeannie is a retired kindergarten teacher. She’s 84. Her way of communicating is through letters. When my mom died in 2005, my dad was sure he’d find a new bride with whom he'd live out his golden years and he did. They were married 8 years before Dad died. In those 8 years I’d receive long lengthy letters from Jeannie on how Dad was doing. Her letters were great because Dad would always simply say he...
