Life is Goog by Deena McDaniel Positively Beautiful Weekly Column 2/14/2020

Saturday is play time and this past Saturday took us to the Yellow Green Farmer’s Market. Every sort of imaginable product is for sale! We ooo and ahhh many booths, well it’ s mostly just me as Mickey is a guy who glances and moves on. A few Saturdays ago, we met some screen printing folks. They were so adorable, but I didn’t need “another” t-shirt. And then I made an observation as she pitched me once again to buy a shirt. Goog?

“Life is GOOG” was printed on her shirt along with several palm trees and a cool VW Microbus. Ah yes, to travel through Florida in a classic VW Microbus, might be a good adventure. I asked her what GOOG meant? She had a Latin accent and I thought perhaps it was a term I wasn’t familiar with. “OH NO!” she said, pointing to her shirt, “Life is GOOOOOD.” She swayed her hips side to side in a salsa dance motion of joy. I tried not to laugh, and it wasn’t about her dancing. I told her the printing said GOOG not GOOD. "Goog isn’t a word?" Her eyes popped as large as saucers. Walking swiftly over to her husband, “Life is Good?” she gestured. “You misspelled the word.” She glanced over to me, “Is GOOG a word in English?” I shrugged and shook my head no. Throwing her hands up in the air in laughter, “I guess life is GOOG!” I had to buy a shirt now. I found a Valentine's love themed print, they printed in on-site and I bought it. At the bottom was, “…and more Love.”

We proceeded to laugh throughout the rest of the day, with “Life is GOOG.” I came home to try on my shirt. Pulling it out of the bag I noticed every word was backward! Love wasn’t love it was evol. They’d made another laugh for us. So looking in the mirror the words do say Love.

God made me think. We only see a reflection of ourselves. Think about it, we never really see ourselves as we are, it’s always a reflection. 1 Corinthians 13:12 came to mind, “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”  We can’t see God how he truly is right now; we do and must however reflect Christ in all we say and do. What am I reflecting in my life? Don’t ask my family when my emotions begin to escalate. Those horrible times when I’m more like the reverse of love, evol (kinda sounds like evil with a Latin accent) my heart isn’t thinking “love your enemy.” Studying 1 John this past few months with my women’s group we’ve plunged into what “love” is to the Lord. Yes, this is true…1 Corinthians 3:4-7 “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant  or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

God is love. And God is NOT a liar. God’s promises are true, or you call him a sinner. He cannot sin. Our testimony of love is to walk in the truth, but as the world calls us in temptation and attempts to lure us into evil, we can recognize the counterfeit when we know the Truth. “Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness.  Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling.  But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.”- 1 John 2:9-11  The only way to find freedom from sin and death is to run to the Savior. What does that really mean anyway? It means we read God’s promises. It means we apply scripture to our daily living.

We will always make mistakes. The goog, the backward and the ugly…we’re human. Don’t live in the deception of darkness. “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.- Luke 18:19  God is good all the time and all the time God is good! But keep in mind the new catchphrase, “Life is GOOG!” You just can’t make these crazy stories up, because laughter is a gift from God. OH GOOGNESS! I evol my new shirt! Happy Valentine’s Day <3
