Two Words and One Finger by Deena McDaniel Positively Beautiful Blog 3/19/22

This is one of the most difficult and joyous subjects I’ve ever written about. The Lord gives and takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord. She was born Oct 17th, 2001, right after the 911 event. The world was a mess, but the USA became united as a nation again. Now, March 2022 war is in full swing in Ukraine, and she’s flown the nest. March 12, 2022, was a glorious day! Welcome to the world, Mr. and Mrs. Desmond Collins.    Ephesians 5:31 -“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

Quite frankly the wedding day is a blur! I’d like to go back in time and be that fly on the wall watching the glorious event. Yes, we have hundreds of photos, however after months of planning in a few hours it was over, and we were back home.  A month ago during planning, Rosey was overwhelmed, as one thing after another seemed to go wrong, “Mom, I just want Desmond to say it was worth it!” (He said later it was!)

Rain was forecast. Rain it did. An outdoor wedding is always a hit-or-miss event in Florida.  The plan wove perfectly. Light right before the wedding, which was at a small, covered park amphitheater.  The music began and it was as though God turned on the air conditioning switch.  This muggy Florida weather disappeared as a cold front blew in just at 3:30p when she grabbed her Daddy’s arm to be given away in marriage. A beautiful cool breeze fluttered the backdrop, and our granddaughter Arlowe tossed the rose peddles for Rosey to enter upon. (Oops, Arlowe also threw her candy out too which did not bode well with this full of life 3-year-old, but she recovered quickly with Mom’s wise words. “After they kiss you go get your candy.”) KISS THEY DID!

God’s grace was upon every inch of the wedding. Tears streamed down Desmond’s face as Rosey read her vows. Somehow both Mickey and I kept our eyes dry with excitement. Pastor Al’s message was clear and binding. To death do us part! Photos, then party! This is where my brain stops. We’d started decorating at 10 am and now clearly by 4:30 pm I was exhausted, but in a red glittery gown and stilettos all night long! We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding. Beauty beyond words and let’s say a lot of kissing! Marcos our guest mentioned that every time a glass was tapped in a toast sound, the bride and groom had to kiss! I’m not sure how those two even were able to eat dinner! “DING DING DING!” Kiss! I'm investing in chapstick!

Off to a honeymoon in the tropical paradise, we live in South Florida then flying out to North Carolina to visit the newborn Frankie. Desmond became an uncle a month ago. And during this visit, God blessed Desmond with the job he’d been praying for! Both Rosey and Desmond will be working with the same insurance adjusting company! And they were confirmed for their apartment in Orlando. God is on the move! Wait for it…. Mary is moving to the same area, (St. Petersburg, Florida.) They put their house up for sale and in two days the bidding war took place. It was thousands over the asking price!

My head is spinning! And yet with a heavy sigh, I’m working on a new normal for this Granny. Tears, joy, abandonment, freedom, frustration, and even anticipatory faith in what God will do next. I’m a mess and happy. Our next big push is to get our house ready to sell! Yes, where will God plant us next? It’s a two- or three-year adventure in the works or not? We’re able to sell and downsize right now. Oh Lord make choices obvious! He always does.

Our oldest daughter eloped. Our son is hopelessly in love with his girlfriend, and I see potential wedding bells. Rosey and Desmond’s future is brighter than the sun, because of the Son. Abigail has adventures yet to live. Mickey and I embrace the next chapter of our lives. It’s like that TV series you watch and you’re disappointed season 35 is over. (*We’ve been married 35 yrs.) Season 36 is now being written. No one can go back in time. We can reflect on photos and memories of our lives. Please be mindful of your days on earth. I was told the older you get the faster life flies! I understand. Don’t wish away the bad times. Never fast forward through time to get to the good parts. (Oops I do that with movies) Be present in the moment. Journal. Pray. Connect with folks you’ve put off contacting. Today is the day to recognize the mighty hand of the Lord. It’s no coincidence in life. It’s the Maker of the Universe moving in your life. Surrender to the King of Kings. He’s the only one truly in control. Simply acknowledge, I repent.  I believe.  I surrender. Isaiah 61:10 “I will rejoice greatly in the Lord, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”   We have one life. Give your life to Jesus today.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Desmond Collins. No worries many more stories to come about the glorious day. God is on the move. (Two words and one finger is so funny. I wish I’d thought of it, but Mary found it on Pinterest for the Bachelorette t-shirt creations.)

May you too have Joy!
